Kids in the Kitchen

During the summer at Casa Jones, all children are expected to fend for themselves when it comes to food…except for dinner, which is always prepared for all.   With a much more relaxed schedule compared the the school year, summer is the perfect opportunity for my kids to gain some confidence and skills in the kitchen.  Their favorite breakfasts to make on their own include  2 Minute Oatmeal, Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs, or just a simple bowl of cold cereal.

Kids in the Kitchen Secret #8:  Provide opportunities for your kids to fend for themselves to eat so they have no choice but to learn to cook for themselves!

Snack time is pretty specific in our home because I don’t need my kiddos eating a bunch of empty carbs all day long and then not being hungry for dinner 🙂  Snacks are veggies, fruits, yogurt, cheese and nuts.  They each have their favorites but from time to time, I like to throw in something fun and healthy for them to make.  These Peanut Butter & Banana Sushi with honey dipping sauce were so much fun for them to make and they raved about them. This is one of my favorite flavor combos so this recipe might have been created a bit more for me than them 🙂
