Frozen Breakfast Sandwiches are easy to make, wrap up, and stick in the freezer. Breakfast meal prep doesn’t get any easier. Then during your busy morning, all you have to do is toss them into the microwave or air fryer and your breakfast is ready! These freezer breakfast sandwiches use English muffins, sausage, eggs, and cheese just like the ones you love from the freezer section of your grocery store. But, these ones are actually healthy!
Why I Love Frozen Breakfast Sandwiches
I’ve been in a huge cold cereal rut recently and my poor kids have definitely been missing a bit of variety (and nutrition) in their morning meals. Last week, my 15-year-old son kindly requested that I restock the freezer with his favorite breakfast sandwich because he just couldn’t take one more bowl of rice crispies. Poor kid!
With as crazy as my schedule has been recently, I knew there wasn’t going to be time for me to make my normal recipe for these handy breakfast freezer sandwiches. I recruited my daughter as my sous chef to get a big batch of sandwiches in the freezer. However, I knew she wasn’t quite ready to make the scrambled egg patties in my original recipe. I needed something that was going to be easy for my 10-year-old to make all on her own. I remembered seeing somewhere on Pinterest the idea to oven-bake the eggs in muffin tins and I knew it was the perfect solution. She made these breakfast sandwiches all on her own and I was able to get a ton of work done. I had her break the yolk up a bit once they went into the muffin tin so that each bite of the breakfast sandwich had some yolk. You can totally keep the egg whole if you would like it that way. Also, if you would prefer your eggs soft and a bit runny on the inside, just reduce the baking time to 15 minutes.

Unwrap the sandwich and divide it into two halves. To use the microwave, place it on a paper towel and heat it for 2 minutes. For a crispier breakfast sandwich, use an air fryer at 350 degrees for 6 minutes.
Freezer Breakfast Sandwiches Recipe Variations
Being a home cook provides endless opportunities to experiment with recipes, personalizing them to your tastes and creativity. Any of the following variations would be great spin-offs of these frozen breakfast sandwiches.
Use whole-grain English muffins if you are looking for a bit healthier bread option.
Substitute a bagel or croissant for the English muffin. Be sure to buy ones that are smaller in size so the bread part of the sandwich is in proportion to the eggs and sausage.
Use ham or bacon in place of the sausage patty. Be sure to cook the bacon completely before assembling the sandwiches.
Add spice by using pepper jack cheese, or by spreading your favorite hot sauce on the English muffin before assembling the sandwich.
Add a hashbrown patty to the sandwich for quite the beast of a breakfast sandwich!
Add sweetness to the sandwich with a thin slice of pear or apple in with the protein, or spread a bit of jam on one side of the English muffin.
Breakfast Sandwiches FAQs
How do you keep frozen breakfast sandwiches from getting soggy?
Instead of using a microwave to reheat the frozen breakfast sandwich, use an air fryer, toaster oven, or conventional oven. All three of these appliances will reheat the breakfast sandwich without any sogginess. No matter which you use, set your appliance to 350 degrees and open the frozen sandwich into two pieces. The amount of time needed to reheat the sandwich is different depending on the appliance you choose to use. Start checking it at 6 minutes and continue cooking it until the inside is hot.
How do you cook frozen breakfast sandwiches?
You have two quick options for cooking frozen breakfast sandwiches: the microwave and the air fryer. Most people choose the microwave because it is the fastest option but it does create a softer breakfast sandwich. Divide the frozen sandwich into two halves and place them on a paper towel. Microwave on high for 2 minutes.
To use an air fryer to cook a frozen breakfast sandwich, divide the frozen sandwich into two halves and place them bread side down in the basket of the air fryer. Air fry it at 350 degrees for 6 minutes.
Are frozen breakfast sandwiches healthy?
Freezer breakfast sandwiches are a great protein-packed meal. Each sandwich is only 350 calories and has over 20 grams of protein. To make them a bit more healthy, you can use whole-grain English muffins, turkey sausage patties, and a thin slice of cheese. Or, you could eliminate the cheese completely.
How to wrap the sandwiches so they don’t get freezer burn
It is important to use both plastic wrap and aluminum foil to keep freezer burn from happening on the breakfast sandwiches. First, wrap each sandwich in plastic wrap, then use a sheet of aluminum foil around the outside of the plastic wrap. This also allows you to use a permanent marker to write on the foil what is inside and the date it was made.
How to make freezer breakfast sandwiches in an air fryer
Using an air fryer to reheat the frozen breakfast sandwiches is a great way to be sure they aren’t soggy like they tend to become in the microwave. To do so, divide the frozen sandwich into two halves and place them bread side down in the basket of the air fryer. Air fry it at 350 degrees for 6 minutes
How long do frozen breakfast sandwiches last in the freezer?
As long as you tightly wrap each sandwich first in plastic wrap and then with a sheet of aluminum foil, they will last for at least 3 months in the freezer. They can certainly last longer than that but can begin to get some freezer burn the longer they are frozen.
Are frozen breakfast sandwiches fully cooked?
Yes, every part of the sandwich is fully cooked before being assembled, wrapped, and frozen. This is very important because when the breakfast sandwiches come out of the freezer, they are only reheated before eating. If the sausage or egg wasn’t fully cooked before assembly, those ingredients would not get fully cooked while reheating.

These look just genius. I loved the baked egg concept. I am making these this week. Do you just put a frozen already cooked sausage patty on each egg?

Howdy Barbara! I used the frozen precooked sausage patties but if you were going to use uncooked ones, that would be the perfect time to cook it!

I love this! I’m making eggs now. Have you ever just stored the eggs without being made into a sandwich?
Carole

You can easily just freeze or refrigerate the eggs once they are fully cooked!

So just to clarify you are using precooked frozen sausage and assembling the frozen sausage with the cooked egg and then freezing? So not defrosting frozen sausage and then refreezing? I’m terrified of food poisoning so just double checking about frozen vs defrosted sausage. Thanks

Hey there Janette! That is correct. The frozen sausage is completely cooked and no worries at all about food poisoning.

I’m assuming I can kick it up a bit by adding jalapeños and cheese?

You bet Carmen! I add the cheese to the sandwich instead of the eggs, but either way works!

Carole

Hi Juliana! I’m not sure I am understanding your question. You can freeze them anywhere in your freezer but without a microwave, you should probably thaw them overnight in the fridge before heating them in the oven.
