Three weeks of summer left here in Minnesota and now is about the time I begin to lose my patience for summer. The kids are tired of being home, tired of swimming, tired of each other, tired of me. To make it worse, I am also tired of all of those exact same things. Summer grouchies have set in at the Jones abode.
Time to pull out something new, different and unexpected!
When I saw this recipe over on Mom Trusted, I knew it was just what my summer grouchy kids needed. Yes, everything about it is messy but that also means everything about it your kids will adore!
It isn’t like play-dough and not quite moon sand. Something in between that is really soft and silky. The kids rolled it, shaped it, molded it and made a big mess. Luckily, it sweeps and vacuums up without any problem so don’t freak out!!! Plus, it washes off hands with just some warm water.
For me, a mess that is easy to clean up is worth it for an afternoon of kids happy, content, quiet and busy!
1. In a bowl, dump out desired amount of corn starch. I used about half a box but you can use more or less. Add about the same amount of shaving cream and a few squirts of food coloring. Use your hands to mix it together. You will probably need to add additional shaving cream to create a soft dough that doesn’t crumble too easily. If the dough dries out too much while the kids are using it, just add more shaving cream.
