  • Yield: Makes 8 large sandwiches 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Tb vegetable oil
  • 2 lbs lean ground beef
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 large green pepper, chopped
  • 15 ounce can beef broth
  • 1/2 C steak sauce
  • 8 hamburger buns
  • 1 Tb butter
  • 1 Tb flour
  • 12 ounces provolone cheese, shredded
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet preheat to high add the oil, ground beef and salt and pepper. Brown the meat completely and then add the onion and green pepper. Cook for about 2 minutes, then add the can of beef broth and steak sauce. Stir well and allow the mixture to boil for about 10 minutes until the sauce reduces and thickens.
  2. While the sauce reduces, melt the butter in a medium skillet over medium high heat. Sprinkle the flour into the melted butter and whisk it together. Allow the mixture to cook for about 1 minute and while whisking, add the milk. Bring it to a boil, whisking often, until it thickens. Add the cheese and the salt and pepper. Heat until the cheese melts and combines. Serve the cheese sauce over the meat inside the sandwich.
