Parfaits are a great dessert option when you are trying to eat healthy and this recipe is a light take on cheesecake. I toasted slices of angel food cake and layered them with fresh strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and a fluffy cream cheese mousse. The best part is the calorie count….only 170 calories for each parfait!
My friends over at Wolf Gourmet were kind enough to send one of their gorgeous 4 Slice Toasters my way and I’ve been having a bit too much fun playing around with it. As a mom of 6 kids, I was impressed with how durable and easy to clean this bad boy was. My last toaster lost the knobs to push down the toast just a few weeks after we bought it. For years, I’ve kept those stupid broken toaster knobs on my window sill so I could easily grab them when I needed to make toast. That won’t be a problem with my new beast!
When I saw that each side of the toaster could be programmed differently, I knew Wolf Gourmet had some insightful Moms on their design team. One kid wants toast for breakfast while another wants a bagel. Now I can toast them at the same time and they each come out perfectly toasted. The precision shade selector gives you complete control over how light or dark your item comes out of the toaster. You don’t have to commit to a level 4 if what you really need is a level 3.75.
When I was working to create a new recipe to showcase this new countertop beauty of mine, I wanted to step outside of the classic breakfast recipe or the highly popular avocado toasts flooding Pinterest right now. All that kept running through my head for weeks was the question “What can I toast?”
Believe it or not, I came up with A LOT of items I could toast during that brainstorming time 🙂 However, with summer fast approaching, I really wanted to create a healthy dessert option for you all and I worked hard to keep it under 200 calories for a whole parfait. Now, I know you all like my recipes to be as straight forward and simple as possible, so someone will ask if taking the extra step of toasting the angel food cake is really worth it. The answer is a big, healthy YOU BETCHA! When you toast the angel food cake, the sugars caramelize on the outside of the slices and adds a great depth of flavor to your healthy dessert.
Are you ready to make these healthy, under 200 calorie desserts for yourself at home? Wolf Gourmet is going to make it easier for one of my readers by giving away one of their gorgeous 4 Slice Toasters which retails for $499!
